'BEE' NETBALL: 'B' TEAM LEAGUE WINNERS 2026

An amazing afternoon of really competitive netball finished in victory for Swavesey!
On Wednesday 15th April, 4 Year 6's and 4 Year 5's travelled to Impington VC to compete in the 'BEE' Netball 'B' league FINALS.
The league began in September, so this was the 'finale' after lots of early morning netball clubs as well as competing in round 1 in October, and Round 2 in March. Over 45 teams compete in the leagues across the South Cambridgeshire School Sports Partnership (SCSSP). The top 16 teams were now in the 'B' finals...
The afternoon began with three round-robin matches for us, in 'Pool B' of the tournament. The team were nervous but excited as they took on Haslingfield School first. A fantastic game, with Swavesey winning 6-0!
The second game, against Jeavons Wood, was very competitive and extremely well-matched at times, finishing with a very fair 1-1 draw.
Our final match was against Hardwick, which was a very fast-paced game, with Bea scoring 'more' than a hat-trick, enabling Swavesey to win 8-0!
Whilst the numbers were crunched, Swavesey talked about tactics, and were then told that they had qualified in Division 1, and were playing for a TOP 4 finish now!
Our first game was very close, against Histon Park, finishing with a 1-1 draw. We then found out that the first three matches played in Division 1 had all finished with a draw, so the pressure was on!
Our second match was against Pendragon, who we had played previously in rounds 1 and 2. There were a lot of goals scored for both teams in this match, but Swavesey won 8-4 in the end.
Our final game was against the school who won last year and were keen to retain the trophy, Histon Brook. This was a VERY close match, but Swavesey held their nerve and marked their opposition like 'superglue', with Swavesey winning 2-1 in the end.
The afternoon ended with certificates for all teams and medals for the top 2, with Swavesey being announced as overall WINNERS, receiving the shield, to display in the trophy cabinet until next year's finals.
Sadly, that's it for the Year 6 players; Bea, Bella, Thea and Fred, who will leave in the summer term, but will hopefully continue playing in the future. The improvement in confidence and ability has been outstanding, since they joined in September 2024, so a BIG thank you from me for committing to the training.
Taher, Sofia, Florence and Mollie will continue training in September once again, for next year's tournaments. WELL DONE to you all...
Thank you to Miss Bennett for accompanying me to both rounds and the tournament, and to the wonderful parents / carers for taking the players to and from rounds 1 and 2 and the finals!
Lots and lots of photos can be viewed in the photo gallery...
