SCSSP Year 5 / 6 Tag Rugby Tournament 2026

All smiles on a sunny afternoon at Shelford Rugby Club.

On Wednesday 18th March, 28 Year 5 / 6 pupils travelled to Shelford Rugby Club for the SCSSP Tag Rugby Tournament. The weather was beautiful and sunny, so no muddy pitch to play on this year!

It was a great afternoon of some brilliant rugby, with 19 schools taking part from the SCSSP. It was fantastic to watch the children gaining confidence during the afternoon and showing determination, resilience and teamwork during every game. There was A LOT of running and tagging, and unexpectedly warm too!  The seven and ten-minute games were over in the blink of an eye, and extremely close in most games, with a lot of draws.

Swavesey 2 started the afternoon in Pool 3, with two very close losses of 2-4 and 2-3, and a draw of 2-2. Swavesey 1 started in Pool 4, with a loss of 3-5 in their first game, a 5-0 win, and two very close losses of 2-3 and 3-4.

BOTH teams qualified for division 4 in the final matches, so they had to play each other!  Swavesey 2 lost their first game 0-4, drawing their final game 5-5. Swavesey 1 drew two of their matches 4-4.

The middle match was Swavesey 1 vs Swavesey 2, which saw both teams determined to win against the other, but finished with a 4-4 draw, so everybody was smiling at the end!  BOTH TEAMS came JOINT 2nd in Division 4 overall.

It was a lovely afternoon of tag rugby, and the children appreciated the parents / carers supporting them on the sidelines, so thank you! Thank you to Mr O'Neill for accompanying me to the event.
