SCSSP Wimpole Cross Country Competition 2025

Lots of proud smiles, after achieving the finish line, at a fantastic SCSSP event!
The annual Big Schools Cross Country event returned to the stunning Wimpole Estate for its 10th anniversary on Wednesday 12th November, a highlight of Swavesey's sporting calendar!
It really is a very special event, with over 1000 runners participating from 24 primary schools across South Cambridgeshire, taking on a challenging 1-mile loop of the parkland, competing for individual honours and team prizes.
Pupils from Years 3 to 6 raced in 8 separate races, boys and girls for each year group, with the first three finishers in each race receiving a medal and certificate.
In the Year 5 / 6 Team event, 19 teams took part, with Swavesey finishing 11th overall, in a very close event. Even closer was the Year 3 / 4 Team event, with 17 teams running and Swavesey finishing in 5th Place overall! Well done to all the runners, you ALL showed great determination and resilience throughout.
Special mention to Year 6 Morgan, who showed great team spirit throughout the morning, cheering on all runners and teammates. This was recognised by two other schools, who were very impressed by the support he was showing everyone. Morgan received a certificate in assembly this morning, to acknowledge this wonderful example of sportsmanship.
The 'Spirit of the Games' Award recognises exceptional determination and self-belief, with one winner from each school receiving a free National Trust Family Pass this year, thanks to the generosity of Wimpole Estate.
Our Swavesey winner was chosen by staff in attendance, and this was presented in assembly today to Year 5 Kaila. She showed great determination and self-belief in order to reach the finish line in the year 5 girls team race. We hope that you and your family enjoy many visits to not only Wimpole, but other National Trust sites throughout the next year.
Thank you to Mr Pawlett, Mr Jiggins and Mrs Leonard for supporting myself and the children during the morning.
There are lots of local 'Park Runs' in the South Cambridgeshire area and they are FREE! Please follow the link below to find out further information.
