5th PLACE County Finalists in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough

Proud smiles for the County Finalists
On Wednesday 21st May, after a very long 'Bee' Netball season, starting in September, Swavesey 'A' team travelled to the St Ivo Academy, to represent not only Swavesey Primary School, but also the South Cambridgeshire School Sport Partnership.
There were 19 teams ( only 4 from SCSSP) taking part from the South Cambs, Cambridge City, Wisbech, St Albans and Peterborough areas. The players, for the first time, would also have two local adult division qualified umpires for every match!
Our first match was against 'Milton Road' and was an extremely energetic and close game, but in the last few seconds, Milton scored to win 3-2. The team did feel slightly disheartened, but it was only the first match and the umpiring was on another level to previous competitions!
The second game against Houghton was dominated by Swavesey, with a win of 7-0. We then played 'Peterborough' and won comfortably, 6-1, with the final match in our division against 'Elm', with a 4-0 win for Swavesey.
The team then had to wait to see which division we would be put in for the final games. With one loss, we were placed in division 2 and were playing for a finishing position in the County of 5th-8th place out of 19! After having a short break and discussing how strict the umpiring was fair and consistent for all games.
We played our next match against 'Isleham', which Swavesey won 3-0. On to the next against 'Barnack', who had just beaten our fellow SCSSP school, 'Coton', quite comfortably. Undeterred, Swavesey attacked immediately in a very competitive game and were victorious by 6-2! We were doing well, so we went into our final match hoping for a chance to finish in 5th place overall, which we did, with a 3-1 win over 'Coton'.
How amazing for Swavesey Primary School to finish overall in 5th Place, in the County of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough! The team started training as Year 5s in 2023, and have shown how much they have improved. Three of the team were selected on the day to trial for 'County' Netball, so we wish them luck with their future as 7- aside players.
Thank you to Mrs Durant for accompanying me to the event.
I'm extremely proud of all three teams who have competed this year, and I look forward to starting the new season once again in September.
