It has been a busy and exciting time in school, and I wanted to take a moment to share some of the highlights from the past week.
Firstly, we have been incredibly proud of our Year 6 pupils as they completed their SATs assessments. They have shown fantastic resilience throughout the week, approaching each day with such a positive attitude and giving their very best effort. We know how much hard work has gone into preparing for these assessments, and they should all feel extremely proud of themselves – we certainly are!
Since the last newsletter, our Year 1 and Year 2 children also enjoyed a wonderful trip to the Botanical Gardens in Cambridge. Despite the very hot and sunny weather, the children had a fantastic time exploring their learning about plants and experiencing some true wonders of nature. It was a brilliant opportunity to bring their classroom learning to life.
We have also enjoyed two fantastic events organised by our PTA over the last few weeks. The Quiz Night was a great success and brought our community together for a really enjoyable evening. This week’s Colour Run was another brilliant occasion – bright, energetic and wonderfully messy! The children absolutely loved taking part, and it created a real buzz around the school.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to our PTA for all their hard work, dedication and ongoing support. We know that events like these take a significant amount of time and effort to organise, and we are very grateful for everything they do for our school community.
Please do take a look at the latest articles on our website, where you can find a fuller celebration of these events.
Finally, a quick reminder that next week will be the final week of the half term. Please note that the school will be closed on the Friday for a teacher training day

School Gate Reminder – Please Close Securely
A gentle reminder to all parents and carers using the school gate, particularly during after-school club collections, to please ensure that the gate is closed firmly behind you when entering and leaving the site.
We have noticed a number of occasions where the gate has either been closed too forcefully or not quite fully, preventing the locking mechanism from engaging properly. This has resulted in the gate remaining partially open.
While our staff are monitoring the situation, we kindly ask for your support in checking that the gate has closed securely each time you use it. Taking a moment to do this helps us to maintain a secure site and ensures all children remain safely safeguarded.
Thank you for your cooperation and ongoing support.

School Uniform and Lost Property
Please help!!! We have acquired lots of lost property since the start of term and would love to reunite it with their owners, but we can’t as it is all unnamed. If you think you are missing anything, then please pop into reception.
If it doesn’t get collected by the Easter holidays, then it will go to charity.
School Uniform and Lost Property
The school uniform dress code is as follows:
- Black or grey trousers, shorts, skirts or pinafores
- White or red polo shirt (with or without school logo)
- Red cardigan, or sweatshirt (with or without school logo)
- Red and white summer dress (we request no play suits in EYFS, please)
- Plain white, grey or black socks or tights
- Sensible black shoes (sandals may be worn in the summer but these need to be practical for indoor and outdoor learning and play)
- A sun hat for hot days and a waterproof coat for cold/wet days which are suitable/appropriate for school and weather conditions.
Our PE Kit - children come to school in their PE kit on PE days -please ensure it is appropriate for the weather conditions.
- Black, grey or navy shorts
- Plain short-sleeved T-Shirt in your child's house colour (with or without school logo) - red, blue, purple, yellow or green
- Black, grey or navy jogging bottoms/leggings
- Plain jumper or hooded top which is appropriate for PE sessions, i.e. does not restrict movement and provides warmth for outdoor PE
- Trainers for outdoor PE with good grip
- Plain sports socks
Children should not be coming to school in any other items of clothing.
Whilst we ask for our children to have specific items of clothing in certain colours, as you can see there is flexibility within this and items do not have to have the school logo on and do not have to be from a specific shop or a specific brand. We do use the company 'Total clothing' to provide our logo imprinted clothing/items (details of which can be found below) but you do not have to purchase them.
Our PTA ( PTA@swavesey.cambs.sch.uk ) have a permanent stock of 'pre-loved' uniform items and the poster below provides details of how to enquire about this second-hand clothing.
Please make sure that you label every item of your child's school uniform. Every week we have multiple 'lost' items that we cannot return as they are unnamed. If it is named, it will be returned to its owner!

School Garden Club update!
As I write, the sun is shining and there is blue sky, definite signs that Spring is here! We hope you have seen all the bulbs in the flower beds at the front of the school as well as the bulbs popping through in the planters, bringing lovely colour to cheer us up.
Thank you to those who have left donations of goods as requested – we now have 8 watering cans made from milk bottles with Gary’s help. No more bottles needed at present! Please can we ask instead for toilet roll inners, as we can use these to sow and plant sunflowers. And if anyone could donate some sunflower seeds (the big ones as we will have a competition for the tallest!) that would be much appreciated.
Another request is for someone who could help with the design of the garden area to make the best use of the area to grow fruit and vegetables. If this is something you, or someone you know, could help with, please contact me by email sueollive@solomail.co.uk as soon as possible. We want to start sowing after the Easter break.
This week we were able to sow some flower seeds and water them with the new watering cans. They are now in a greenhouse and we look forward to seeing them start to grow.
One major change for the club is that after Easter we will be meeting on a Friday lunchtime. I look forward to welcoming some more regular members and would still welcome any volunteers.
Thank you

Welcome to our ‘online safety’ advice, guidance and support page, ‘Wake Up Wednesday (WUW) - what parents / carers need to know’. Each week we will post articles of interest to our newsletter that should help you and your child.
Children regularly use different websites and apps from their parents, and it can be hard to keep up in this ever-changing digital world. These weekly updates from the National College aim to cover important topics such as online safety, mental health, wellbeing, and climate change.

The funds raised will make a meaningful difference for our pupils, and we are very grateful for all that has been achieved.

Could you foster?
At Nexus Fostering based in Lolworth, we’re looking for local people like you to become foster carers. By providing a loving and stable home environment, you can support the increasing number of children and young people in the local area who cannot live in their family homes. Not all children require long-term care. We also need foster carers for short-term placements, respite care, and to provide temporary homes to support young parents and their babies. So, if you have a spare room and are ready to change lives, please give us a call on 01223 903 503 or email Leanne on leannea@nexusfostering.co.uk.
