This week has been slightly quieter than last week but still there has been lots going on including Year 5 and 6 visiting Duxford on Monday, which was a great educational trip to support their WW2 topic. Year 1 and 2 had great fun with the Zoolabs visit and were excited to hold some interesting creatures.

Last week, anti-bullying week was a great opportunity to reflect and learn. This raised £110.52 for the Anti-Bullying Alliance.

We raised £306.66 for Children in Need. Well done to the school council for their organisation of the teachers v children obstacle course.

A huge thank you for buying books from our Scholastic Book Fair! We raised over £1,400. 🙂The Book Fair has been a resounding success again this year. We would like to say a huge thank you to those of you that bought books for your children. You have helped us buy a whopping £1,400 worth of the latest new books for our bookshelves in each classroom and preschool. Thank you to Mrs Sprawson and Mrs Kent for all of their work in organising.

The children are thrilled and have already started reading the new books and continue to make book recommendations to their friends. What a fantastic achievement!

The festive season is fast approaching, we have lots of things planned across December and there is a list of dates below and also attached as a pdf for your convenience. More details about various events will be sent out as needed. We look forward to seeing you at some of the events.

Art Competition

Exciting News!

We are creating art for not 1,not 2, but 3 possible competitions... The theme for all of them is 'Nature'.

Art work must be A4 or smaller.  It can be of any medium - pencil, painting, collage...

The art work can be 3D but must be able to be displayed on a wall.

Art work is to be done at home and brought to Mrs Cowburn by  Monday 8th December.

Selections of art to go to each competition will then be made by Mrs Cowburn with some help from school council and the teachers.

We will let you know if your work is going forward as there will be some forms to complete at that time.

Enjoy creating!

Chickens

Sadly, we lost one of our chickens this week, Heather passed away on Tuesday. We paused our Year 4 helpers for this week whilst we made sure that all of the other chickens were fit and healthy. We are hoping they can continue helping next week.

Gardening Club

We are very lucky to have a volunteer from the village, Sue, who has started a gardening club with the Year 3 and 4 children.

Could the children in the club, please remember to bring a change of shoes and gardening gloves (if they have them) to school every Monday.

If you have any spare bulbs/plants/hand tools (child or adult size) you are able to donate for the club to use, please bring them to the office.  Thank you.

School Uniform and Lost Property

The school uniform dress code is as follows:

  • Black or grey trousers, shorts, skirts or pinafores
  • White or red polo shirt (with or without school logo)
  • Red cardigan, or sweatshirt (with or without school logo)
  • Red and white summer dress (we request no play suits in EYFS, please)
  • Plain white, grey or black socks or tights
  • Sensible black shoes (sandals may be worn in the summer but these need to be practical for indoor and outdoor learning and play)
  • A sun hat for hot days and a waterproof coat for cold/wet days which are suitable/appropriate for school and weather conditions.

Children should not be coming to school in any other items of clothing.

Please make sure that you label every item of your child's school uniform. Every week we have multiple 'lost' items that we cannot return as they are unnamed. If it is named, it will be returned to its owner!

We have a new ottoman in the front entrance for storing unnamed items of lost property. This will be cleared out regularly as we do not have space to store huge amounts of lost property.

See below for second-hand uniform, if you need anything.

Pupil Premium

At our parent's information sessions, we also shared information about how you can sign up to receive support through Pupil Premium funding for your child.

Pupil Premium is extra funding given to schools to help children who may face barriers to learning—such as those from low-income families, in care or adopted, or with parents in the armed forces.

If you receive benefits like Income Support or income-based JSA/ESA, your child may qualify. Even if your child gets Universal Free School Meals (Reception–Year 2), you must still apply to unlock Pupil Premium funding.

Welcome to our ‘online safety’ advice, guidance and support page, ‘Wake Up Wednesday (WUW) - what parents / carers need to know’. Each week we will post articles of interest to our newsletter that should help you and your child.

Children regularly use different websites and apps from their parents, and it can be hard to keep up in this ever-changing digital world. These weekly updates from the National College aim to cover important topics such as online safety, mental health, wellbeing, and climate change.

Could you foster?

At Nexus Fostering based in Lolworth, we’re looking for local people like you to become foster carers. By providing a loving and stable home environment, you can support the increasing number of children and young people in the local area who cannot live in their family homes. Not all children require long-term care. We also need foster carers for short-term placements, respite care, and to provide temporary homes to support young parents and their babies. So, if you have a spare room and are ready to change lives, please give us a call on 01223 903 503 or email Leanne on leannea@nexusfostering.co.uk.
