Updates from Mrs Norden

Our visit from the author James Cambell was a big hit with the children and staff, leading to some humorous writing.  You can read more about it in the latest news below.  The week ended with lots of music as our Rock Kids workshops had everyone dancing and singing supporting their wellbeing.

This week there will be a range of reading activities linked to World Book Day.  The email with this newsletter link had attachments for activities at home, which we hope you will join in with, and ideas for dressing up on Thursday for World Book Day.   You can also find these on our Letter's Home page of the website accessed here.  

Further to my previous information on school funding, you can access the 'Stop School cuts' website here, which provides data on real term cuts for schools in England.  Please share this with your family and friends and encourage everyone to contact their MPs to support better school funding.  The illustration below my update shows our real term funding cuts since 2010/11 - despite cost rises.

National Science week begins 8th March, and we will have activities throughout school from 11th to 15th March.  This year the theme is 'Time'. We are looking forward to exploring science beyond the curriculum and hopefully hearing from some scientists in different fields.

Phonics training for Parents/Carers - Supporting Your Child at Home

Dandelion Learning Ik are offerering a free session for parents/carers to support phonics at home.  Whilst this will be a generic session, and not bespoke to Little wandle the scheme we now use, Dandelion trainign ahs always been of good quality and you may find this session useful. 

This training is aimed at parents of children in EYFS and primary school.

Learning to read and enjoying reading is fundamental to children's life chances. Phonics is key to decoding and parental support is a crucial factor in ensuring success in reading progress. The aim of this session is to give parents the confidence to support developing readers and writers so they make great progress in reading...and love it!

In this free 1 hour session the trainers will explore:

• What phonics is and why it is important.
• Phonics terminology.
• How phonics is taught in schools.
• How you can help your child with their phonics at home.

Choice of dates and times:

• Thursday 22nd February 2024 6pm - 7pm
• Friday 26th April 2024 10am - 11am
• Monday 17th June 2024 7pm - 8pm

Could you foster? 

At Nexus Fostering based in Lolworth, we’re looking for local people like you to become foster carers. By providing a loving and stable home environment, you can support the increasing number of children and young people in the local area who cannot live in their family homes. Not all children require long-term care. We also need foster carers for short-term placements, respite care, and to provide temporary homes to support young parents and their babies.
