Updates from Mrs Norden

My update today starts with a message from our Rights Respecting Committee:

The ambassadors for Swavesey's rights respecting schools' journey are pleased to announce that we have now achieved the Bronze award.

This is because we have satisfied the following criteria:

  • Introduced the RRSA Three Strands into your school community
  • Made sure our senior leadership team understands what is involved in the award and is committed to embarking on the UNICEF UK Rights Respecting journey
  • Ensured that the right foundations are in place for our school’s journey to the second stage of the Award - Silver: Rights Aware

We look forward to announcing our success in achieving the silver award in the not too distant future.

Swavesey's Right Respecting Committee

We are thrilled to have completed this section of the award and thank Mrs Namur and our new RRA committee for all the work they have done towards this achievement. As we move into the silver award we will keep you updated on our progress.

I also want to say a huge thank you to the PTA, school staff and children for all their organising, and helping with our summer fete yesterday.  We had lots of visitors despite the change in date and timings and lots of fun was had by all - I can only hope that children didn't buy back household donations!

Having finished the week with an exciting event we mustn't forget that Year 1/2 started the week with a trip to Hedingham Castle as part of their topic work. You can read all about their day below. Don't forget to click on the gallery link in the article to also see what they were doing too.

As some of you may know Louie, one of our pupils, was born missing his right hand. Louie has asked if we can help him fundraise so he can have a bionic hand with an Iron Man cover. If you are able to support with the fundraising, please use the link below to donate or share as much as you can.

We are looking forward to our School Games day on Monday and finalised details for this can be found below.  Swavesey's Got Talent final is on Friday and all those who entered their phase heats should be very proud of their achievement. Performing in front of your peers is no easy feat, and they all showed courage and confidence in doing so.  Good luck to all those who are finalists.

Our busy weeks continue so keep reading for further updates.

Summer Term Updates

PE Days  - Week beginning 26th June

Reception classes - Monday/Friday

Yr 1/2 All classes Monday/Tuesday

Yr 3/4 All classes Monday/Tuesday

Yr 5/6 All classes Monday/Wednesday

School Games Day - Monday 26th June (the forecast would indicate we will not need our reserve date and all will go ahead on Monday).  The children are looking forward to putting into action all the skills they have been developing and we hope you will be able to join us and cheer them on.

KS2 : The morning session will begin at 9.30am - gates will open at 9.25am (front and rear) for parents to come and join us on the field - and should be finished by 11.45am.

Reception/KS1: The afternoon session will begin at 1.30pm - gates will open at 1.25 pm (front and rear) for parents to come and join us on the field - and should be finished by 3.20pm.

Preschool will join the afternoon session at 2.45pm and so the front gate will be opened at 2.40pm for preschool parents.

Please note the gates will close 10 minutes after the opening time to assure our safeguarding protocols are followed, therefore, if you arrive after the gates are closed, entry will be through the front gate only. When you buzz to gain entry please note that the office may not be manned due to operational needs or the admin staff may be on the phone or dealing with a matter which cannot be immediately left, so please be patient.  If after 3 or 4 minutes you have not had a response please buzz again and if there is still no response use the Preschool buzzer to gain entry.  You will then need to make your way to the back field via the right-hand side of the main building.

Children will need to attend school in their PE kit (house colour top is important) and ensure they have a filled water bottle and sun hat with them.

The children will rotate around a variety of activities through the session in house groups and you will be able to follow these groups and cheer them on.  We ask you to make sure you stand back from the active zones so the children have enough space for all they need to do.  Each session will end with some individual running races on the running track.  At this point we will ask you to stay behind the solid white line running along the front of the football goals to ensure that the running lanes are kept free to maintain safety as well as support staff in carrying out their tasks.  Please also do not congregate at the end of the running track as the children need the 'run off space'.

Please note there will not be any refreshments available, so please make sure you have water with you too.

Year 5/6 Production: Eric the 'Virtuous' Viking - Tuesday 11th July at 2pm and Thursday 13th July at 6.40pm.  An email has been sent out with details for our year 5/6 parents and carers.

Year 6 Leavers' Assembly - Tuesday 18th July morning, start time 9.30am

Year 6 SVC transition days (for those attending SVC in September) - Wednesday 19th to Friday 21st July inclusive.  SVC will send information directly to parents in due course.
