Updates from Mrs Norden

Year 3/4 have had a busy week performing their fabulous 'Egyptian Adventure' production.  The children shone showing their skills and talents, and we are really proud of them all.  Well done Year 3/4.  A huge thank you to all the staff who supported the performance from script writing to producing this extravaganza.  We hope the audiences enjoyed the show and learnt some new facts along the way.  Thank you also for your donations at the end of the performances which have raised £188.72 for the children's cancer charity.

As you will be aware from media coverage, the NEU will be taking industrial action this term and this may affect us as a school.  Should staff choose to take strike action, please know they will not have taken this decision lightly and that it is not just about pay.  This industrial action is being taken to highlight the unfunded increases which are impacting on already stretched school budgets.

We set our budget in April with no indication of the additional costs we now face being planned for by the government. The increases to pay, for both teaching and support staff, were announced in August and finally agreed in November long after budget setting.  This will lead to schools facing deficit budgets and having to make difficult decisions in order to balance the books.  Anthony Browne, MP, will be visiting the school next Friday and I will be discussing with him these funding issues.

Amazon Smile fundraising will be finishing at the end of February, with Amazon recommending using a wish list as a way to continue to support fundraising through them.  We have received at least £1500 from Amazon Smile since signing up for it, and we thank you for all your support in choosing us while you shop.  We already have an amazon wish list set up but know we have not advertised this well.  From today our newsletters will permanently show the link to our list (see the header above), and we hope you will be able to continue to support us through Amazon in this way.

Friday 3rd February is the NSPCC Number Day, which we join in with annually.  We will be asking the children to dress up as a 'digit' for the day as part of our maths based activities.  Look out for further information next week.
