Updates from Mrs Norden

While the weather has brought the rain and wind hampering playtimes a little, the school has been busy learning and, in Year 3/4's case busy rehearsing.

Today Claire McDonnell, from the South Cambs Schools Sports Partnership, presented us with our Platinum School Games Award for 2021/22. This is our second platinum award having previously achieved five years of Gold awards (a Platinum criteria).  We are one of only 7 schools in South Cambridgeshire who have achieved the highest level of this National award.  We are very proud of all the work Mrs Turian, staff across the school, and the children put into physical development which has supported this achievement.

We are also beginning our journey to becoming a Right Respecting School (RRS) where children’s rights are at the heart of our ethos and culture, to improve well-being and to develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential.  As part of this plan we are working towards recognition as a ‘Rights Respecting School’, an award given to schools on behalf of UNICEF UK.  Please find further details in a letter to parents here and accompanying information here.  Mrs Namur is leading us in this project and will update you as we progress.

Please find below some updated information to support planning and organisation for all our families.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.

Please Help Keep our Children Safe

Please support the village and the safety of our children by sending your comments to the Parish council on their bid for the Local Highways Scheme

What is the Local Highways Improvement Scheme?

Each year CCC provides a funding scheme across Cambridgeshire for communities to apply for funding towards proposals for highway improvements in their area, the LHI Scheme.

Swavesey Parish Council applies to this scheme each year and has been successful in receiving funding for a number of improvement schemes around the village over the past few years.

2023/24

Swavesey Parish Council will be submitting an application for an improvement scheme for the School Lane/Thistle Green junction area to:

  • Slow traffic down by improving the existing table junction (making it more effective, as per the Gibraltar Lane-School Lane junction).
  • Incorporate two crossing points at either end of the table junction – to help make it safer to cross School Lane, particularly at School start and finish times.
  • Include double yellow lines around Thistle Green junction, to stop vehicles parking right on the corners and blocking the crossing points, how dangerous it is currently to try to cross School Lane.
  • Repaint the road markings and table junction markings, making the feature more visible.

As part of the application, evidence from the local community in support of the scheme and the reasons for proposing it are to be included.  The Council welcome your comments and these can be sent to the Parish Council at clerk@swavesey.org.uk
