Updates from Mrs Norden

We had a wonderful Carol concert this afternoon; the sun shone, the temperature was bearable and voices were in fine form.  It was lovely to see so many adults able to join us.  Thank you to Reverend Lucy Cleland for her interesting talk on the two sides of Christmas and Mr Ambrose for loaning his equipment to support our event.

As you will know, last week children across key stage 2 took part in the Wimpole Cross-country, representing themselves and the school very well at this huge event attended by 20 schools.  You can read more by accessing the official  report from the SCSSP here and through the children news article below.  We know many of our children are interested in running as a sport and so you can access information about Junior park run events here.

Our Early Years and KS1 production went very well, and we hope you enjoyed their performances.  They learnt so many words and actions and should be proud of themselves. Next week you will be able to catch up with what they thought of their play through a news article.

Next week will continues to be busy and so please access the December helpful list here for details.  We hope you will join in with our 'Christmas Jumper theme' for the last day of the term (next Friday) too.

I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Autumn Term Administrative and Information Updates

Lateness - if children arrive after 8.55am they must enter school via the main entrance and be signed in on the electronic system to ensure they are registered for safeguarding.  Most classes will have completed registers by this time.

Absences - please ensure you email or leave a voice message on our answer phone to notify us daily of children's absences.  If a child is absent and we have not had confirmation by the start of the school day we have to follow attendance protocols and follow this up by contacting you for confirmation. Should we be unable to verify why a child is absent this could lead to us a making safeguarding referral as per guidance laid down for us.  Should a child and family be in serious need of support i.e. they are missing then the more people we have to ring to clarify absences the more likely help is to be delayed.

Please Help Keep our Children Safe

Please support the village and the safety of our children by sending your comments to the Parish council on their bid for the Local Highways Scheme

What is the Local Highways Improvement Scheme?

Each year CCC provides a funding scheme across Cambridgeshire for communities to apply for funding towards proposals for highway improvements in their area, the LHI Scheme.

Swavesey Parish Council applies to this scheme each year and has been successful in receiving funding for a number of improvement schemes around the village over the past few years.

2023/24

Swavesey Parish Council will be submitting an application for an improvement scheme for the School Lane/Thistle Green junction area to:

  • Slow traffic down by improving the existing table junction (making it more effective, as per the Gibraltar Lane-School Lane junction).
  • Incorporate two crossing points at either end of the table junction – to help make it safer to cross School Lane, particularly at School start and finish times.
  • Include double yellow lines around Thistle Green junction, to stop vehicles parking right on the corners and blocking the crossing points.
  • Repaint the road markings and table junction markings, making the feature more visible.

As part of the application, evidence from the local community in support of the scheme and the reasons for proposing it are to be included.  The Council welcome your comments and these can be sent to the Parish Council at clerk@swavesey.org.uk
