Updates from Mrs Norden

There are several updates already this week which need to come out to you before our normal Friday newsletter, so please find below a variety of organisational information, as well as health updates from the local authority on the increase in numbers of Group A Strep infections.

Carol Concert this Friday 9th December 2022 starting at 2.15pm

Thank you for completing our survey, to support our organisation for the concert.  It will be lovely to have so many of you join us and the weather, although cold, looks to be dry.

As the concert will be in the playground please ensure the children come to school with coats, gloves, scarves and hats to help keep them warm for the while outside for the concert.  The concert will last approximately 35 minutes.

A little reminder from last week's newsletter, as always we will be finishing the concert by singing 'We wish you a Merry Christmas' and in school we have been practising the song with the Makaton signs to support our children who use Makaton to communicate.  We hope if you will be joining us for our concert that you will practise too.  Please click here to see a Youtube video of the song with signing.

Please arrive through the front gate, which will open at 2.15pm from which you will be able to make your way round to the rear playground.

We will have paper copies of the concert programme, with words for communal songs available on the day, but if you would like to pre-download it to your hand held device you can access it here.

Medical advice from the LA on Group A Strep

The LA have notified us that they are seeing a higher number of cases of 'Group A streptococcus' this year than usual, and you may have seen information in the media about a rise nationally.  The bacteria usually causes a mild infection producing sore throats or scarlet fever that can be easily treated with antibiotics. Scarlet fever is a common childhood infection caused by Streptococcus pyogenes (group A Streptococcus [GAS]).

Individuals diagnosed with scarlet fever should be not attend school for at least 24 hours after the commencement of appropriate antibiotic treatment.  Siblings can continue to attend schools if they are well and have no symptoms.

Please click here to access the letter from the Local Authority specifically for parents providing more detailed information on symptoms, actions to take and  steps to reduce the spread.
