Updates from Mrs Norden

We hope you have a restful half-term and the return to routines, especially with the chillier weather, has not been too onerous.

This week seems to have sped past starting with the excitement of Halloween on Monday (followed by tiredness and possible sugar lows on Tuesday) through to the busy organisation this afternoon for our PTA Firework display later.

We hope you will be able to join us later for our Fireworks.  Gates open at 5.30pm for our BBQ and refreshments and the firework display will begin at 6.30pm.  Entrance is £3 per adult/£2 for children - it is a cash only event. Please do not bring sparklers as we do not have the space for these to be used within the safety guidelines we have to follow, and we suggest wellies for the back field which has become quite muddy with the recent rain.

Our New Intake Talk and Tour this week was well attended, and we hope parents found the insight into the school 'at work' useful.  Our last Talk and Tour of the term will be held on 25th November (1.30-2.30pm).

Unfortunately, the school, and the Parish Council, continue to receive complaints about inconsiderate and illegal parking at school drop off and pick up times.  This is a topic which many villages in the local area appear to suffer from, and so the Local Authority are now considering employing parking wardens to support better oversight and enforcement.  The Parish Council have asked us to share with you an information poster to support better parking, which can be accessed here.

Armistice Day is soon approaching (11th November) and we will be supporting the Poppy Appeal again this year.  If you wish to donate, please come into the front entrance from Monday 7th where we will have poppies and other items such as snap bands, zip pulls and reflective poppies.

Finally, this week has also brought lots of information and links from community partners, details for which can be found, and accessed below, as well as through different tabs on our website.

Autumn Term Administrative and Information Updates

School Dinners - New menu from 31st October can be accessed through the lunch link towards the bottom of the newsletter.  Please make sure you book lunches in advance to support ordering and catering.  It is important that children know what has been booked for them too - if a hot lunch is booked this is what will be provided.

Jane Rogers workshops - Jane is our local Education Inclusion Family Advisor (please note she has a new title, but the role is broadly the same - supporting families).  Jane, and the EIF team, provide support and help through direct contact and workshops.  Please click here for details of her next workshop entitled ' What to do when kids push your buttons'.

National Sleep Helpline: Please access poster details here if your child suffers with sleep issues.

Children in Need non-uniform day - 18th November

Following our annual tradition, we will be joining in with Children in Need on 18th November, by having a non-uniform day.   This year however, instead of donating to the national Children in Need charity we will be sending all donations directly to a charity which supports single parent families in Ukraine, who have children with severe disabilities (cerebral palsy, genetic disorders, mobility issues, sight and hearing loss etc).

Donating directly to a children's charity is something we have done before when it has linked to our own community or the wishes of our children.

All money raised will go to 'Direct Support for Ukraine', which is a local charity project providing much needed resources and support through volunteers for these families.

Our TA, and parent, Mrs Moroz (originally from Ukraine), and another of our parents, Mr Parker, are both volunteers supporting this project through fundraising, as well as, through practical help.

Mrs Moroz will be leading an assembly next week so our children can learn more about the needs of these children in Ukraine and the project.  After our raised funds have been utilised by the charity Mrs Moroz will lead another assembly to show the children how their donated money has actually been used to help these children and their families, who are in much need of our support.

We hope will help our children feel empowered and able to make a positive impact amidst the suffering.
