Updates from Mrs Norden

Despite this week having been shorter than expected the school has been busy, with many successes being shared in our celebration assembly this morning.  The children are beginning to settle back into routines and expectations, but today has still seen tiredness amongst many.  Hopefully the weekend will bring some rest.

We have begun term with the whole school exploring the story 'Bloom'.  This has enabled us to not only develop English skills but has complemented our PSHE work as well.  Each year we have started the autumn term with a whole school, or key stage, text which has really united us in considering a single theme and ideas.

Please can I remind everyone that the play equipment at the rear of the school should not be used at pickup or drop off time.  This is particularly important as some pieces are cordoned off awaiting repair and are therefore unsafe. School staff assure safe play during the school day but cannot supervise during these periods as they have other priorities.  This week staff have had to leave organising their classes as they have witnessed children accessing the cordoned off areas after being picked up.

Additionally, children should not be scooting, or biking, once on school premises.  Bikes and scooters should be dismounted and parked in the shed or led.  This is to ensure we do not have any collisions - this week we have had several near misses.

We continue to receive concerns and complaints over parking at drop off and pick up times.  Please can we ask you to park considerately of our neighbours and also safely to ensure clear vision at junctions and along roads

Below there are some updates and requests, so please keep reading to the end and I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Autumn Term Administrative and Information Updates

Lateness at drop off time - please note that the gates will shut at 8.55am.  If children arrive after this time they need to come into school via the front entrance and sign in using the electronic system.  This si really important to ensure they are properly registered as registration closes at 8.55am.

New Intake 2023 Talk and Tour 29th September - if you have a child starting school in September 2023 please come and join Mrs Norden for a tour of the school, to see our environment, organisation and ask questions. There is no need to let us know you are coming, we simply ask that you arrive promptly at 9.30am to support organisation as the school will be 'at work'.

Request

Wellington Boots - We are looking for donations of Wellington to support with our chicken care.  As we move into the Avian flu season it will be important that we sue footwear that is sterilised and not used in other areas.  We would therefore like to have a selection we can use for the children who come to help which we can keep just for this role and then clean after each use.  If you do have any children's sized boots you could donate please drop them off at the office.

Harvest Assembly 30th September - we will again be collecting for Jimmy's Shelter in Cambridge.  Jimmy’s is a community-based and people-focused organisation working alongside people experiencing homelessness in Cambridge.  We hope you will support us in donating items (foods and hygiene products) which we can then pass on to Jimmy's.  As we have little storage space please can any donations be brought into school on 30th September and not before.  Children can take these into their classrooms, or you can bring them directly into the hall from the playground doors at drop off.

Please click here to see a list from Jimmy's of items they would find most useful.  Please do not send fresh produce as collections are not always immediate and could be the following week.
