Updates from Mrs Norden

In a week which has been filled with sadness across the country, we are pleased to be able to share some lovely news with you.  Mrs Poskitt gave birth to a baby Maeve last week; mother and baby are doing very well.  We send them all our best wishes, and I am sure they will come and visit the children soon.

In addition, we have again been awarded the 'National School Games' Platinum Award, which is the highest level of the award scheme and recognises the sports and outdoor activity provision of the school.  We say a huge thank you to Mrs Turian, as our PE lead, and the primary staff who support PE provision, for all their hard work in ensuring wide experiences for our children, so they can develop key skills, knowledge and understanding in these areas.

As you will hopefully be aware the school will be closed on Monday for the Queen's funeral.

Remembering Queen Elizabeth II
We have been saddened by the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.  As a school we have taken time to celebrate her life and reflect on a life full of service.  Our thoughts are with her family at this time, and we hope they can take strength from joyful memories of past times.

Autumn Term Administrative and Information Updates

Year 4 and 5 recorder club  - will start next week on Wednesday 21/9/22 at 12.30pm.  Newcomers are welcome.

New Intake 2023 Talk and Tour 29th September - if you have a child starting school in September 2023 please come and join Mrs Norden for a tour of the school, to see our environment, organisation and ask questions. There is no need to let us know you are coming, we simply ask that you arrive promptly at 9.30am to support organisation as the school will be 'at work'.

Collins e-books - due to the lack of  home reading we have cancelled our subscription to the Collins e-books. So this resource is no longer available.

Chicken's eggs

Thank you for all the egg box donations - a special thank you to the mystery donor of a huge bag of empty boxes.  We have enough now to keep us going for a while, so please do not send any more in at the moment.

The girls have been busy laying this week, and we have had 3 days of a full complement of 6 eggs, which hopefully shows they are healthy and happy. We hope those of you who have had a pack of eggs have enjoyed them. Iris, Heather, Penny, Dotty, Emerald and April (and Mrs Norden) say thank you for your support.

You can still sign up if you would like a pack of our eggs by completing the very short form accessed here.  We give out the eggs on week days when the chickens lay using the order people have signed up in.

We will not be using any artificial light to increase production through the winter months and so it is likely that as the days shorten we will have a few months without any egg production. We will let you know if and when this happens.

We ask for a donation of £1 per pack which will go towards feed, bedding etc.

Swavesey Primary School PTA are holding a car boot sale on Sunday 2nd October 2022.

Harvest Assembly 30th September - we will again be collecting for Jimmy's Shelter in Cambridge.  Jimmy’s is a community-based and people-focused organisation working alongside people experiencing homelessness in Cambridge.  We hope you will support us in donating items (foods and hygiene products) which we can then pass on to Jimmy's.  As we have little storage space please can any donations be brought into school on 30th September and not before.  Children can take these into their classrooms, or you can bring them directly into the hall from the playground doors at drop off.

Please click here to see a list from Jimmy's of items they would find most useful.  Please do not send fresh produce as collections are not always immediate and could be the following week.
