Updates from Mrs Norden

Another week of activity has included our Yr5/6 cricketers taking part in a local competition, our chickens (definitely no longer chicks) moving to their outside coop and Year 1/2 visiting Rosegate Farm.  The very hot weather has led to changes in original planning in some cases, and missing deliveries changes to others, but an exciting week no less.  News articles for these events will be added next week, so please look out for these on our website.

Last week's newsletter included information about our PTA summer fête on 2nd July.  We have not been able to run this event for the last two years, and so are looking forward to holding a wider community event for all to join in with.  Please check the details below and support in any way you can to help us make it a successful afternoon.

On 27th June we will be holding our School Games Day, again an event which will be open to parents and carers to attend for the first time in two years.  KS2 will hold their sports activities in the morning and Reception and KS1 in the afternoon.  Preschool will join the afternoon session for the last activities (timing to be confirmed).  Parents are welcome to come and spectate, so please see details later in the newsletter.

Unfortunately, the end of the week has brought several confirmed cases of Covid, with several other children absent with possible Covid symptoms.  If you are at all able, should your children, or you, feel unwell with headaches, temperatures, sore throats and coughs, please try to do a test to check.  We know the media are reporting increases in cases nationally.

The virus spreads so quickly and so we hope, with your support, we can try to stop a wider spread, especially as the remaining weeks of term have so many activities for everyone to join in with.  We really do not want to have to change planning due to safety measures having to be put back into place should numbers hit trigger points for this to happen.

Whilst I am sure a cooler weekend may be welcome, I do hope the forecast rain does not dampen any plans, as I know there are so many activities in the local and wider community to enjoy.  Next week is likely to be cooler, but please remind children to keep applying their suncream and bring in their water bottles and sun hats.

School Games day - Monday 27th June

As you will have seen from our diary dates previously published through the year, we plan to hold our School Games Day on 27th June.  Should the weather not be conducive to going ahead the reserve date is the following Monday 4th July.  Our school games day is a time to celebrate the children's developing skills and team work within the PE curriculum. The details below provide timings and entry information.

KS2 : The morning session will begin at 9.30am - gates will open at 9.25am (front and rear) for parents to come and join us on the field - and should be finished by 11.45am.

Reception/KS1: The afternoon session will begin at 1.30pm - gates will open at 1.25 pm (front and rear) for parents to come and join us on the field - and should be finished by 3.15pm.

Timings for Preschool joining the afternoon session will be confirmed as soon as possible but will be approximately at 2.45pm.

Children will need to attend school in their PE kit (house colour top is important - yellow house see below) and ensure they have a filled water bottle and sun hat with them.

The PTA will be running a drinks stall for parents and carers through both sessions.

Additional organisation information will be included in next week's newsletter.

Yellow PE T-Shirts  - the hotter weather brings out the bugs and these are often attracted to yellow PE tops.  Children in yellow house can come in another colour top for the rest of term to help the bugs stay away.  We will make sure you can still identify them on school games day as being in yellow house.

Summer Sandals - whilst we would encourage closed toe shoes for safety, we know that the warmer weather leads to sandals wanting to be worn.  Should your child want to wear sandals, please ensure they are sturdy, can be fully strapped to the ankle/foot and fit properly, so toes cannot drag on the floor (no sliders/flip flops/ crocs).  It is also important to explain to the younger children how sandals may affect how they run around at playtime and that they will protect them less should they trip or drop things on their toes.

Lost property -  the hotter weather seems to be leading to an increase in lost property (there is still some left from much earlier in the term also).  If items are named we do return them, but if they are not this is very difficult to do, and many children do not seem to notice if they are missing items.  We will put the lost property out in the back playground over the next two weeks for claiming.  Any items unclaimed will be given to the PTA to be sold on their second hand uniform stall at the fête.

We are thrilled that our Summer Fete can take place this year on Saturday 2nd July 1 - 4pm. We need your help to make it a success - please see the attached poster for details. If you are able to helping set up / during / after the fete – please email pta@swavesey.cambs.sch.uk

If you would like a stall at the summer fete, please complete the booking form and return to pta@swavesey.cambs.sch.uk.

Clicker Summer Story Share

Clicker is a programme we use to support some children in school with their writing.  Clicker is running a competition this summer.

"Open to primary school children of all abilities, the Clicker Story Share is a chance for your child to tell
us a story that excites and inspires them — in their own way.
Every entrant will be added to a prize draw for the chance to win an incredible £250 of bookvouchers for their school.
To support their story writing, we’re also giving your child free, unlimited home access to Clicker on Windows, Mac, iPad, or Chromebook — all summer long."
