Updates from Mrs Norden

Despite the changing weather we have been able to enjoy our Jubilee activities this week.  The school has been ablaze with colour and crowns, we've learnt new games, and now we also have a greater understanding of what the Platinum Jubilee means.

We hope you have seen the children's art work, in the hall and Year1/2 classroom windows, linked to the Jubilee 'River of Hope', which Mrs Cowburn has put together so expertly. The detail, colour and thoughtfulness is wonderful to see.  We will be finding a more permanent home for this, so it will be available for viewing for longer.

The PTA Jubilee Bake Off had a fantastic number of entries and judging was a difficult job with so many amazingly decorated cakes and biscuits.  However, agreements were finally made, and we say congratulations to the four age group winners and runner-up bakers.  The cakes and biscuits had a huge array of decoration including swans, union jacks, the Queen's head and more.  See below for more details.

It has also been another week of sporting activity, although the rain stopped play for our cricketers yesterday with their tournament being postponed.   However, our netballers had better weather later in the day and the County final did take place.  The team acquitted themselves incredibly well coming third. A huge well done to the whole squad, for all their efforts in reaching the county final and playing so superbly. Please read the article below for more details.

Looking to after half-term, the first week back is going to be very busy, especially Monday 6th with Yr6s leaving for their residential, Reception visiting South Angle Farm and Yr5s starting their bikeability course.  Please check details below for timings and vital information to support an organised start for the Monday morning.

I will close today by wishing you an enjoyable half-term, which we hope provides some well-earned rest, as well as, enjoyment of your plans and Jubilee bank holiday events.

Monday 6th June Organisation -

Please do not park in the bus lay-by as we have two coaches arriving between 8.45 and 9.30am to pick children up (separate pickups).  If they cannot park here they will have to park outside school which will add complications to proceedings and increase danger to everyone accessing and leaving school.

8.30am – Reception children arrive via front gate ready for their trip

8.45am – Yr 5 arrive with bikes entering school viathe front vehicular gate to store their bikes on space assigned on back playground.  Parents will not be able to accompany them so they must be organised to wheel their bikes and carry their things into school by themselves.  Mrs Turian will be marshalling the organisation.

8.45am - Reception will leave via the back gate to meet their coach at the bus lay-by (please don't arrive early, so the gateway doesn't become blocked).

0850 - Gates open as normal with Yr6 on residential entering is possible via the back gate to go to the hall. Mr O'Neill, Miss Higgins and Mrs Gladwell will be there to organise them.  Parents need to leave the children at the doorway.

0930 - Yr6 will leave to meet their coach - parents can wave them off at the bus lay-by.

Past pupil running success - we have been thrilled to hear how Joshua (now in Year 7) has joined Hunts AC, after encouragement from Mrs Turian and his primary successes.  He has been enjoying his training and winning county championship races in his age group.  Well done to Joshua, we hope his success may inspire others.
