Updates from Mrs Norden

Firstly we want to send a huge well done to our Year 6s, who have completed their national KS2 Standard Assessment Tests this week.  They have all worked so hard and very much took them in their stride.  Hopefully they will be able to enjoy a relaxing weekend.

Again this week's newsletter is really full, with a large proportion providing information about Jubilee activities for us before half-term, please see the section below for details as your children will need your support with some of them.  Whilst the children will be aware of those activities already underway, we will be talking through the additional activities with them next week in school.

Our chicks are continuing to grow incredibly fast and have begun to be allowed to venture out a little.  See the new gallery of photos here.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and are able to enjoy the warmer weather.

Jubilee Celebrations and Activities

We have already planted our trees for the Jubilee taking part in the 'Queen's Green Canopy' initiative, and classes have begun art activities, co-ordinated by Mrs Cowburn, to contribute to a whole school artwork aligned with the Jubilee 'River of Hope' art competition.

We are now busy finalising planning and organisation for a variety of Jubilee events and activities for the children in the three days before half-term (Mon 23rd - Wed 25th).  Please find details of some of these below; we hope you will be able to provide help from home with some aspects.

1. PTA 'The Great Swavesey School Jubilee Bake Off' Competition - as you will know we had to postpone our traditional 'Bake Off' in October, and so we will start our festivities off on Monday 23rd May with a Jubilee special.  Children are invited to enter the competition by bringing in cupcakes and/or biscuits with a Jubilee design.  These will be judged on the designs and sold at the end of the day to raise funds for the PTA.

Please see the competition poster for further details by clicking here.

2. Dressing Up Day and an Afternoon Street Party - On Monday 23rd children are invited to dress up following the theme of 'British Royalty' or in 'red, white and blue' for the day.  In the afternoon, we will be holding our own 'street party' in the school playground with a costume parade, games and party snacks.

3. 'If I were the Queen I would....' whole school writing project -  children across the whole school will be joining in with creating their own decrees if they were 'the Queen'.  We may share some of their thoughts and ideas more widely in future newsletters!

4. Special Jubilee Assembly - On Wednesday 25th May, we will be holding a special Jubilee assembly where we will be learning more about the Queen's Jubilee and celebrating our endeavours together with a special visitor.

Short story competition for a worthwhile cause - a family in Over are fundraising for their daughter and the Battens Disease charity, after she received a diagnosis of the disease recently.  This disease is life-threatening.  The fundraising activity asks primary aged children to write short story which may then be published.  Please access further details by clicking here.

Reception Team request: We are looking for donations to expand our range of small world toys - these are toys children can use to make up stories with, great for developing imagination and creativity. If you have, or know of someone who has, any of the toys from the list we have created (accessed here), and would be willing to donate to us, we would be very grateful.  Please send them in with your child.

Admin Updates:

1. MCaS Balances -  Bromcom (MCaS) have experienced issues with some payments due to the change in requirements of security checks by the banking system. Some banks have added checks over and above the standard without communicating that to the payment provider.

For the most part, these have been resolved, however there are one or towo taking longer to resolve. We apologise and thank you for your patience.

MCaS Balances - the issue with the balances showing on some people's accounts has been resolved.

Linked with the payment issues, the Rainforest visit (Yr1/2) deadline has been extended so that payment can now be made.
