Updates from Mrs Norden

The sun has been so welcome this week and really lifted spirits, although the torrential rain on Wednesday left our drying field a sodden mess, so play spaces had to be moved again. However, it helped with the tree planting yesterday as the groundwater meant no additional watering was necessary.

We have added 40 new saplings to the field, a mix of wild cherry, rowan and silver birch.   Each class/group has taken part and will be responsible for tending the trees as they grow.  Please see the news article below for more details.

This week we have also been busy engaging in a variety of activities linked to National Science Week and STEM subjects.  This has included the children virtually meeting three professionals who talked to them about their areas of expertise and answered our children's questions.  Katie, a structural engineer, who specialises in designing science labs/research buildings and hospitals; Chris, a trained medic, who has diversified and now discovers and develops new medicines; and Mike, an animal biologist, with a specialism in neurobiology.  We are really grateful to them for giving up their time to talk to our children and help bring STEM subjects to life. Please look out next week for more information on our activities.

Unfortunately, this week has seen more parking issues, which have impacted negatively on our neighbours.  Please can I ask you to walk to school where at all possible to reduce the need for parking. However, should driving be a necessity please be considerate in parking so as not to block driveways, adhere to highways legislation and be mindful of the impact on pedestrians and the flow of traffic you may cause.  In November issues led to the police monitoring for a period, which did lead to tickets being issued. Village complaints may lead to a further period of proactive monitoring in the area.

Admin Updates:

1. Pre-booking school dinners - please ensure you pre-book your children's school dinner meals, including for Reception and year 1/ 2, preferably a week in advance.

2. Lost Property - where clothing has a name staff will ensure they are returned to those children if found around the school, otherwise anything unnamed is generally deposited in cloakrooms based on the age grouping on labels and staff regularly ask children in the relevant classes if items belong to them.

Vacancies:

As a school we have vacancies in our midday supervisors and cleaning/premises teams. Information can be found using this link here.

PTA Fundraising

As part of the PTA fundraising we now have an Amazon wish list, which has a range of books we would like to purchase for the school.  If you would like ot donate by buying us a book then please go to the list sharing page here.  We will add a template to the inside cover of the book to highlight your donation unless you instruct us otherwise.

If this is successful we will add more items to the list.

Please note that when you click the link the page will show Mrs Whislter's name with 'Swavesey School Wish List' underneath.
