Updates from Mrs Norden

Tuesday 8th saw several of our Year 6 children out at different sporting tournaments.  They thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to take part, and you can read some pitch reports through the links below.  It has been fabulous to see a return to previous activities, but as a school we continue to be cautious as this half-term we are experiencing our most significant number of Covid cases.

Next week will be very busy across the school as we join in with National Science week and other activities.  The theme for science week this year is 'growth', which we will be exploring through all STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects.  Our activities will include professionals in the fields talking to the children about their work and journey into the profession as well as answering their questions.

We will also be beginning our Jubilee activities, as we join the Queen's Green Canopy Project.  Our Woodland trust trees have arrived this week and each class/group (e.g. Owls, preschool) will be planting their trees from the pack to booster the ones we planted last year on the school field.  The children will then support with their cultivation and management going forward.

Finally, Friday is Red Nose Day for Comic Relief, which we will be supporting through a non-uniform day.  Children can come dressed in anything red, red nose related or similar as long as it is appropriate for school and the weather conditions at the time.  We ask for a minimum donation of £1 towards comic relief.

Mile Trail Design a Character Competition

Local Active Partnership, Living Sport are launching some family trails in local parks this summer.  There will be one in each of the districts to help families to have fun getting active together.  They are running a competition for primary aged children in our local schools to design a character to feature on the signs along the trails in each district.  Entries close on 18th March.  Please click here for details.

Admin Updates:

1. Pre-booking school dinners - please ensure you pre-book your children's school dinner meals, including for Reception and year 1/ 2, preferably a week in advance.

2. Lost Property - where clothing has a name staff will ensure they are returned to those children if found around the school, otherwise anything unnamed is generally deposited in cloakrooms based on the age grouping on labels and staff regularly ask children in the relevant classes if items belong to them.  However, we still have 2 black coats (5/6 & S) and a blue one (10/11yrs) previously noted in newsletters which continue to be unclaimed in the office.

Vacancies:

As a school we have vacancies in our midday supervisors and cleaning/premises teams. Information can be found using this link here.

PTA Fundraising

As part of the PTA fundraising we now have an Amazon wish list, which has a range of books we would like to purchase for the school.  If you would like ot donate by buying us a book then please go to the list sharing page here.  We will add a template to the inside cover of the book to highlight your donation unless you instruct us otherwise.

If this is successful we will add more items to the list.

Please note that when you click the link the page will show Mrs Whislter's name with 'Swavesey School Wish List' underneath.
