It really has been a busy two weeks since half-term and next week is looking busy too! Thank you for your support with the various events and helping them to be a success.

Fireworks Fun

The PTA Fireworks evening last Friday was a huge success, it was brilliantly attended and the display was amazing, I am sure you will join me in thanking the team behind making it a huge success, the PTA committee who organised everything from tickets, BBQ, cakes, drinks and floats, the staff and helpers who made sure the event ran smoothly. Huge thanks need to go to the firework team led by Steven and supported by Will, Matt and Paul, it was an amazing display enjoyed by so many people.

The fundraising event raised a huge £3277.00, we would like to thank our sponsors JLB Electricals and the Wilderspin family for their generous donations towards the costs.

The next PTA event - Pottery Painting is happening this Friday 21st November - see below for more details.

Anti Bully Week - 'Power for Good'

We kicked off this week with 'odd socks day' in recognition of the anti-bullying alliance charity. Across the week, the children have been learning about bullying and how to use their power to stop it happening.

Remembrance

On Tuesday we marked Armistice Day with an assembly and a minute's silence to remember those who fought or are still fighting in wars across the world.

Wimpole Cross Country

48 children took part in the school sports partnership cross country event at Wimpole on Wednesday, the children showed their skills as great sports people and enjoyed the event.

Book Fair

The children have enjoyed browsing the books and compiling wish list, payments must be made and order sheets returned to school by Monday 17th November.

Children in Need

Today, the school council set up an obstacle course and teachers competed against the children, the school council spent ages discussing and voting on what they would do to raise money for Children in Need and they organised and created posters to promote the event. Despite the rain and needing to move the event indoors, it was enjoyed by all and more importantly raised money for the great cause of Children in Need.

You can read more about the events in the blogs below.

Next week Year 5/6 will be visiting Duxford and Year 1/2 will be having visit from Zoolabs.

Parent helpers

Do you have any time spare to volunteer and help in school? We have a range of things you can support with such as reading with children and preparing resources. If you think you can spare any time, please contact the school office.

Chickens

The year 4 chicken helpers have started  looking after Penny, Heather, Dotty, April and Emerald.

Thank you for all of the egg box donations, we have plenty  at the moment so no need to send any more in.

School Uniform and Lost Property

The school uniform dress code is as follows:

  • Black or grey trousers, shorts, skirts or pinafores
  • White or red polo shirt (with or without school logo)
  • Red cardigan, or sweatshirt (with or without school logo)
  • Red and white summer dress (we request no play suits in EYFS, please)
  • Plain white, grey or black socks or tights
  • Sensible black shoes (sandals may be worn in the summer but these need to be practical for indoor and outdoor learning and play)
  • A sun hat for hot days and a waterproof coat for cold/wet days which are suitable/appropriate for school and weather conditions.

Children should not be coming to school in any other items of clothing.

Please make sure that you label every item of your child's school uniform. Every week we have multiple 'lost' items that we cannot return as they are unnamed. If it is named, it will be returned to its owner!

We have a new ottoman in the front entrance for storing unnamed items of lost property. This will be cleared out regularly as we do not have space to store huge amounts of lost property.

See below for second-hand uniform, if you need anything.

Pupil Premium

At our parent's information sessions, we also shared information about how you can sign up to receive support through Pupil Premium funding for your child.

Pupil Premium is extra funding given to schools to help children who may face barriers to learning—such as those from low-income families, in care or adopted, or with parents in the armed forces.

If you receive benefits like Income Support or income-based JSA/ESA, your child may qualify. Even if your child gets Universal Free School Meals (Reception–Year 2), you must still apply to unlock Pupil Premium funding.

Welcome to our ‘online safety’ advice, guidance and support page, ‘Wake Up Wednesday (WUW) - what parents / carers need to know’. Each week we will post articles of interest to our newsletter that should help you and your child.

Children regularly use different websites and apps from their parents, and it can be hard to keep up in this ever-changing digital world. These weekly updates from the National College aim to cover important topics such as online safety, mental health, wellbeing, and climate change.

Could you foster?

At Nexus Fostering based in Lolworth, we’re looking for local people like you to become foster carers. By providing a loving and stable home environment, you can support the increasing number of children and young people in the local area who cannot live in their family homes. Not all children require long-term care. We also need foster carers for short-term placements, respite care, and to provide temporary homes to support young parents and their babies. So, if you have a spare room and are ready to change lives, please give us a call on 01223 903 503 or email Leanne on leannea@nexusfostering.co.uk.
