Message from Mrs Ogilvie

It has been a busy couple of weeks here at Swavesey, all classes have enjoyed reading 'The Oak Tree' and taking part in many different activities linked to it. During assemblies last week the children shared their learning about the book, which included artwork and poetry. Pre-school had fun during their environment day, exploring the grounds and trying out the new environment area.  Classes took part in National Coding Week with a variety of activities – see more in the linked news article below. School clubs are up and running and children are enjoying them.

As the weather is turning and changeable, please make sure you send children in with coats. We already have a box full of unnamed lost property – if your child has lost an item, please come and look in the main school entrance. If items are named, they will be returned to the classes – if you haven't already named your child's clothing please do so if you want it to be returned to them!

There is lots of new information in this letter including:

  • School Photos
  • Harvest Festival assembly Wednesday 1st October
  • PTA AGM Thursday 2nd October – please come along and support.
  • Cauliflower Cards – please order online and return original artwork to school by Friday 3rd October

                                                                   Lynsey Ogilvie, Headteacher

Harvest assembly - Wednesday 1st October (previously shared as Friday 3rd)

We will be thinking about celebrating the harvest and how lucky we all are to have farmers to make sure we have enough food. We will once again be supporting Jimmy's by collecting items from their suggested list to help residents of the shelter. Please send items in with your child by Wednesday 1st October. If you would prefer, you can make a financial donation here.

If you would like any further information, please contact the school office.

Pupil Premium

At our parent's information sessions, we also shared information about how you can sign up to receive support through Pupil Premium funding for your child.

Pupil Premium is extra funding given to schools to help children who may face barriers to learning—such as those from low-income families, in care or adopted, or with parents in the armed forces.

If you receive benefits like Income Support or income-based JSA/ESA, your child may qualify. Even if your child gets Universal Free School Meals (Reception–Year 2), you must still apply to unlock Pupil Premium funding.

For more information see: Pupil Premium Information

School Uniform and Lost Property

The school uniform dress code is as follows:

  • Black or grey trousers, shorts, skirts or pinafores
  • White or red polo shirt (with or without school logo)
  • Red cardigan, or sweatshirt (with or without school logo)
  • Red and white summer dress (we request no play suits in EYFS, please)
  • Plain white, grey or black socks or tights
  • Sensible black shoes (sandals may be worn in the summer but these need to be practical for indoor and outdoor learning and play)
  • A sun hat for hot days and a waterproof coat for cold/wet days which are suitable/appropriate for school and weather conditions.

Children should not be coming to school in any other items of clothing.

Please make sure that you label every item of your child's school uniform. Every week we have multiple 'lost' items that we cannot return as they are unnamed. If it is named, it will be returned to its owner!

We have a new ottoman in the front entrance for storing unnamed items of lost property. This will be cleared out regularly as we do not have space to store huge amounts of lost property.

See below for second-hand uniform, if you need anything.

Birthday Celebrations in School

We know how special birthdays are for children, and we love celebrating them together at school! To help keep things consistent and inclusive, we kindly ask that children do not bring sweets or treats to share with their class on their birthday in school. Instead, we have a special way of celebrating birthdays as a whole school community, which all children can enjoy.

Healthy Snack Reminder

As a healthy eating school, we encourage nutritious snacks at breaktime. Please send snacks such as:

  • Fresh fruit
  • Vegetable sticks
  • Rice cakes
  • Breadsticks
  • Crackers

We ask that snacks do not include high-sugar or high-salt items like chocolate, sweets, or crisps.

Thank you for your support in helping us promote healthy habits for all the children.

Dear Parents,

This term we have decided to participate again in a ‘Christmas Design Project’ run by Cauliflower Cards. The project aims to encourage pupils’ creativity and design skills whilst also raising funds for our school.

Your child has been creating his/her own Christmas design which can be professionally printed to produce personalised Christmas Cards, Gift Labels, Wrapping Paper and/or Mugs.

Not only would it be very exciting for your child to see his/her work as a finished printed product, the cards themselves are great for sending a more personal greeting to friends and family at Christmas and the Mugs are great for gifts!

Orders and payment must be made online using the unique code located at the top of the pupil order form. Please refer to your order form for further instructions.

Each order form must be unique so please do not photocopy the form for other members of your family, you can get extra copies from your school.

All artwork where orders have been placed must be returned to school by: 3rd October

Cards will be delivered by the beginning of December.

Yours sincerely

Swavesey PTA

Could you foster?

At Nexus Fostering based in Lolworth, we’re looking for local people like you to become foster carers. By providing a loving and stable home environment, you can support the increasing number of children and young people in the local area who cannot live in their family homes. Not all children require long-term care. We also need foster carers for short-term placements, respite care, and to provide temporary homes to support young parents and their babies. So, if you have a spare room and are ready to change lives, please give us a call on 01223 903 503 or email Leanne on leannea@nexusfostering.co.uk.
