Updates from Mrs Norden

The last couple of weeks have continued to be busy with a variety of events.

On the sporting front, our School Games Day was a huge success, despite the heat, and all our children achieved so much and supported each other well.  Year 3/4 have had a scooter workshop day, with a world champion, and two Year 4 teams took part in a cricket tournament organised by SCSSP.  I want to say a huge thank you to Mrs Turian for all her organisation throughout the year of our sporting calendar, and in particular for School Games day.  Our children gain so much from all these opportunities and this has been recognised again by the School Games Mark awarding body, through receipt of their Platinum award for the sixth year in a row.  Please click on the news articles below to read more.

Our Octagon cluster writing competition finalists attended the celebration evening, with Bella winning the Year 3/4 category and Millie (Yr3/4) and Aggie (Yr5/6) both being 'Highly commended' for their stories in their respective categories. It was wonderful to see all the finalists come together with their families at SVC for the celebration and to hear the judges' comments on the high standard across the schools.  Please read Bella and Millie's account below.

Our annual 'Swavesey's Got Talent' final created great difficulties for this year's judges with the Yr1/2 category leading to multiple winners.  The standard of entertainment was fantastic, and I know the audiences enjoyed the variety of acts.

On Friday we had an 'impromptu' music assembly with our recorder players and assembly musicians performing for the whole school and their parents and carers.  The standard of playing was incredible, especially from our Year 4 recorder players who had only been learning for 6 weeks.

This week will see our Year 5/6 perform their play 'Old School Daze', which we are looking forward to and the following week we will have our transition activities.  So the business continues.

By Tuesday 16th, the children will have brought home any completed books not required for use in their new classes. We will also begin to empty our cloakrooms, so please remind your children to look for items you know are missing.

Thank you to everyone who completed our 'Parent and Carer survey'. A summary of the results can be accessed by clicking here.  I will collate an information sheet from the comment sections in due course and your views will support ongoing planning. Your ideas on our Cultural entitlement work are very useful and will support the next stages of this project.

Four principles that together form a new attitude toward children
These four principles contribute to a general attitude towards children and their rights. They are based on the notion that children too are equal as human beings. The affirmation of the rights to play underlines that childhood has a value in itself; these years are merely a training period for l...

Could you foster?

At Nexus Fostering based in Lolworth, we’re looking for local people like you to become foster carers. By providing a loving and stable home environment, you can support the increasing number of children and young people in the local area who cannot live in their family homes. Not all children require long-term care. We also need foster carers for short-term placements, respite care, and to provide temporary homes to support young parents and their babies. So, if you have a spare room and are ready to change lives, please give us a call on 01223 903 503 or email Leanne on leannea@nexusfostering.co.uk.
