Updates from Mrs Norden

Firstly, I want to say a huge well done to our Yr6s, who took their End of KS2 Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) last week.  We are so proud of how resilient and conscientious they have been throughout their revision and the tests themselves.  They should all be proud of themselves for all their efforts.

During Yr6 SATs week, all other KS2 year groups also undertake summative assessments to support teacher assessment and ongoing planning. Well done to all the children for engaging with these and working hard to show their progress.

I want to say a well done to Miss Cotton too for her nomination for National Early Years Teacher of the Year Award 2024.  Read the article below to find out more.

Last week we held our new intake parent and carer information meeting which I hope all who attended found useful.  During the meeting, we display our uniform and answer questions about it, from which I feel a reminder of our uniform and dress codes would be important to share.  Staff have noticed lapses in uniform consistency and, as explained on our 'Uniform and Dress Code page' our uniform supports our children to feel a part of our school community and helps us to avoid competitiveness that branded clothing may cause, leading to children feeling unhappy or being bullied'.

We are seeing branded clothing in PE kits, which should be plain or with a school logo only. Additionally, some clothing - in particular the length of some skirts and shorts - is not appropriate for a primary setting where it should assure personal dignity both during classroom and playground activities.  To help you with supporting our uniform and dress code, please click here for the website page which provides specific details.

Recently our Eco Committee joined the Swavesey Litter Pickers for a village litter pick, which resulted in bags of rubbish being collected, as you may have seen in Miss Lawton's article.  The Sustainability Hub and Swavesey Litter Pickers have another community event planned for Saturday 1st June at Swavesey Memorial Hall, and we would encourage you to go along and join in.  There will be lots of activities which are ideal for primary-aged children, as well as a litter pick.   You can find details of the litter pick here and the sustainability hub activities here.

Finally, from me today a reminder that we have a staff training day on Friday 24th May, therefore, there will be no school for the children.  This is followed by the May half-term (27th to 31st May) and the children return after on 3rd June.

                                                                                                              Anna-Claire Norden

Could you foster?

At Nexus Fostering based in Lolworth, we’re looking for local people like you to become foster carers. By providing a loving and stable home environment, you can support the increasing number of children and young people in the local area who cannot live in their family homes. Not all children require long-term care. We also need foster carers for short-term placements, respite care, and to provide temporary homes to support young parents and their babies. So, if you have a spare room and are ready to change lives, please give us a call on 01223 903 503 or email Leanne on leannea@nexusfostering.co.uk.
