Hello Yellow! - Charity Event - 9th October 2026

On 9th October, Swavesey Primary School proudly took part in Hello Yellow, a national fundraising event in support of YoungMinds and children's mental health.
It was wonderful to see our school filled with the colour yellow as children and staff came together to raise awareness of the importance of mental health and wellbeing. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our families, we raised over £250 for YoungMinds, helping to support children and young people across the country.
Throughout the day, children took part in a range of activities designed to encourage conversations about feelings, emotions and wellbeing. During a whole-school assembly, we discussed the different emotions we all experience, whether happy, worried, excited or sad, and reflected on the important message that all feelings are valid and it is okay to experience a range of emotions. We also explored ways to support our wellbeing, including talking to trusted adults when we need help.
Our Year 5 and 6 children spent time thinking about inclusion and belonging by designing welcoming community spaces where everyone could feel valued and included, regardless of their interests, abilities or needs.
Here is what some of our pupils wanted to share about the day:
"In Year 5 and 6, we have been working on drawing lots of rooms that are available for everyone, no matter their interests. The whole school talked in assembly about the feelings that you can have, whether sad or happy, and that it is OK to feel these different emotions. Everyone had so much fun dressing up in yellow and we all loved seeing each other's outfits!"
"In Year 5 and 6, we have been designing a place where everyone can feel welcomed. We thought about a variety of fun and inclusive activities that would appeal to everyone. We then created community centre designs where people could find activities they enjoyed, whether they were disabled or not. We also had an assembly about different feelings and how it is okay to experience them. We discussed ways to overcome challenges, such as talking to a trusted adult. We all dressed in yellow and saw lots of amazing outfits around school."
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the day by making donations, wearing yellow and taking part in the activities. Together, we not only raised valuable funds for YoungMinds but also took time to focus on an important message: looking after our mental health matters, and no one should ever feel they have to face difficulties alone.
We are incredibly proud of the thoughtful discussions that took place throughout the school and of the way our children embraced the spirit of the day.
