A wonderful week of learning in Reception
Reception have been busy this week learning all about the coldest parts of our planet!
This week in Reception we have been learning all about the Arctic and Antarctic. We started by learning about where these places are on a world map and thinking about what it might be like there. We then found out about some of the animals that live in these places, including penguins and polar bears. After finding out some interesting facts about polar bears, we used this to inspire some artwork using chalk and charcoal. First we used white chalk on black paper to draw the outline of the polar bear. Then we filled it in and used our fingers to smudge the chalk and create a furry effect! Finally, we added details such as eyes and a nose using charcoal. We think they look amazing!
"I know that polar bears live at the top of the earth and penguins live at the bottom."
"I loved smudging the chalk to make my polar bear."
"Penguins huddle together to keep warm because it's SO cold in Antarctica!"
