Swavesey WIN the 2026 Panathlon

All smiles after a great afternoon at SVC!

On Thursday 15th January 14, KS2 pupils took part in a SCSSP ‘PANATHLON’ event, which was, for the first time, hosted by Swavesey Village College.

The Panathlon is a multiskilled event for primary-aged children, to challenge skills in throwing, accuracy, and teamwork. The events were parachute popcorn, precision beanbag, flight path target throw, skittles, new age kurling, boccia blast bowling, slam dunk basketball, and some races, to end the afternoon.

Both Swavesey teams showed great sportsmanship and team skills and were a real credit to our school, scoring the highest number of points in events during the afternoon!

Noah was team leader of one Swavesey team, and they finished in FIRST place overall, with Ruths’ team finishing with a high number of points, meaning that SWAVESEY came in 1st Place overall, winning a wonderful ‘Panathlon’ trophy for the cabinet at school, to keep forever! The children were thrilled, especially as they all received a very special ‘Panathlon’ medal for all their hard work and a certificate in assembly on Friday!

Here are some thoughts from the teams about the event:

Noah: I enjoyed the parachute, getting the trophy and the basketball and kurling event. There wasn’t anything I did not like! I felt good when I realised my team were going to finish first, being team leader. I loved going with my best friend. I learnt that I’m really good at Kurling and I can do anything, even if I think I can’t!

William: All the games were so much fun, I really liked winning the trophy and representing the school. I did not like having my photo taken though! I enjoyed helping my team during the games.

Louie: I enjoyed the basketball game. It made me feel good when the sports leaders cheered me on. I learnt that I’m good at sport. I didn’t like walking back to school in the rain!

Alessio: I loved that we won! It made me feel good helping my team. I did not like the target throw as I couldn’t get the balls to stick on! I learnt that I was good at basketball.

Holly: My favourite game was basketball. If you got the ball in the hoop, you stepped further away each time, it was fun. I enjoyed everything! I felt good at how fast I was able to run.

Annabelle: It was fun and exciting! My team made me feel good as I was the first to get furthest from the basketball net, and so they said ‘well done’ to me. I learnt I am kind to others and good at PE.

Frankie: I enjoyed the bowling; in fact, I enjoyed everything! I felt proud of myself as I was good at everything.

Ruth: I enjoyed the parachute and scored eleven points in basketball. I learnt I am quite good at catching.

Jack: I liked bowling and kurling as I like aiming at things. I felt good getting a medal at the end.

Ewan: I enjoyed Kurling the best and representing the school. I learnt that I am good at throwing.

Joseph: I liked the parachute and bowling. I didn’t really enjoy basketball as much. I liked earning points and learnt I am great at bowling.

Fergus: The parachute was the best! I loved it all. I felt good that I was great at teamwork. I learnt that I care about people in my team.

Ferdinand: I enjoyed the bean bag toss and basketball games. I felt good about taking part. I learnt that I’m good at basketball.

Saphia: I enjoyed all the activities, I felt good playing the parachute games. I learnt that I was good at bowling.

Thank you to Miss McAuley, Mrs Howard, and Mrs Unbekandt for attending and supporting the children.
