At Swavesey Pre-school we offer a wide range of activities to support our aim of "Learning through Play". The Curriculum is designed to promote learning and to provide opportunities to reach the Early Learning Goals in the Foundation Stage of Education. Children at a young age learn through their own enjoyment of an experience or activity. By providing a wide variety of activities both familiar and unfamiliar we allow the children to make their own choices and thus learn at their own individual pace. As we get to know each child we can stimulate their interest and enjoyment by extending and supporting their play, thus facilitating learning.
Each half term we select a theme such as Toys or Growing and plan a balance of adult-led and child- initiated activities. The activities at Pre-School cover the six areas of Early Years Curriculum: personal, social and emotional development, communication, language and literacy, mathematics, creative, physical, knowledge and understanding of the world. Activities on offer might include: role play, painting, sand and water play, craft, play-dough, role play, dressing up, number games, sharing books/ listening to stories, music and singing, cookery, construction toys, gardening and wheeled toys. Children can be as 'messy' as they choose, but we encourage them to participate in the clearing away, learning to take responsibility for their actions and take care for their surroundings. Examples of the weekly plans are displayed on the noticeboard for your information.
The curriculum is designed to support the areas of learning which are the essential basis for later studies in school and to allow children to enjoy learning and develop their interests.
